A Wild Tonic in the Rain: In Defense of Baz Luhrmann

Just before the release of Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby I wrote a "defense" of the divisive director and his outsized, fetishistic, purpled approach to film. It was published on Chud.com. I've since seen The Great Gatsby, and it was fine. Luhrmann's idiosyncrasies are the most interesting thing about it.
